Sophomore Year

In the spring semester, students completing their academic programs in the General Studies Program participate in mandatory group meetings held by the advising and coop staff of the students' intended majors. The meetings help GSP students pre-register for courses for the fall and spring semesters of the sophomore year as appropriate. Some of the requirements for moving to your sophomore year and intended major are outlined below. Your advisor is well-versed in all the transition requirements you'll need to know.

Moving from the General Studies Program to your Intended Major with Sophomore Status
The General Studies Program, in partnership with all NU colleges, has established the following criteria for students' successful transition to sophomore standing. See your advisor during the GSP year for further details.:

  1. Must achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA*
  2. Must earn a minimum of 28 semester hours (32 are recommended)
  3. Must meet the college/major specific criteria listed below
  4. Must complete the GSP Sophomore Petition Form with a GSP advisor

Students unable to meet the requirements for successful transition will be advised accordingly.
