GSP Curriculum

The General Studies Program operates under a "Learning Community system," in which faculty share student cohorts. Faculty meet every semester to discuss their shared students' progression.

GSP students choose from four different Learning Communities that lead to sophomore status in their intended major:

GSP Learning Communities:

As a GSP student, you will take two "Strategic Thinking and Learning" seminars - unique to the General Studies Program - that develop critical-thinking and learning strategies. Your STL courses are taught by your GSP academic advisor. GSP advisors meet with students each week in class and during regular conference hours. Their dual role as instructors/advisors enables them to become familiar with your academic strengths and weaknesses, and help you meet your highest academic potential.

You are expected to complete a minimum of 28 semester hours (SH)(32 are recommended)and earn a minimum 2.0 GPA to be in good academic standing at the end of your GSP year. Keep in mind that your intended major may require a higher GPA and specified courses. Be sure to discuss your plans for your intended major with your GSP advisor, whom you will meet during the first week of classes in the fall.
